Ever since the premiere of our Ordo Virtutum performance in 2009 at the "Styriarte" Festival in Austria, the Ars Choralis Coeln have performed this mystery play more than a dozen times in Germany and various other european countries, and even in Taiwan. Finally the time has come to release a recording of their celebrated rendition, especially since audiences and fans have long-awaited such a recording. Hildegard of Bingen's (1098-1179) visionary works and chants demonstrate an artistic synthesis the likes of which cannot be rivaled. Hildegard's Ordo Virtutum is the earliest extant mystery play to survive in written form in Europe. Even today, Hildegard's love of giving artistic form to her ideas, as well as creating dramatic productions, is impressive -- like when she lets the Virtutes (the virtues), Anima (the soul), and the Diabolus (the devil) perform and sing: Hildegard's vision of a sounding divine order. The Ars Chroralis Coeln, a women's vocal ensemble including members from various countries, gave its debut concert in 2004 in Cologne, Germany in the "Romanische Nacht." Ever since, Ars Choralis Coeln has established a reputation both nationally and internationally within the medieval music concert scene. The many concerts within Germany and abroad, as well as many CD productions, attest to the ensemble's success.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
