UK Albums Chart - #30, 1977
“Iggy’s point, of course, is that rock is better off dead, but his is not the sentimental, transcendental approach to death. The Idiot is, on the contrary, a necrophiliac’s delight, and Pop’s next move may well go beyond flesh tearing into live barbecue.”
- Rolling Stone
The Idiot was the first of two albums Iggy Pop released in 1977 written and recorded in collaboration with David Bowie and gleams with the electronic sounds of German groups such as Kraftwerk, often acknowledged as the unofficial beginning of Bowie’s Berlin period. The album is at once funky and robotically electronic, resulting in a sound that was defiantly futuristic at the time of its debut.
