"... sung here with faultless clarity by The Sixteen ... a significant contribution to the repertoire, sitting proudly alongside more familiar settings, all meticulously directed by Harry Christophers."
- The Observer
Spirit, Strength & Sorrow from British choral ensemble The Sixteen and conductor Harry Christophers features three new works, all settings of the Stabat Mater text, by young composers representing different backgrounds and cultures: Alissa Firsova, Tõnu Kõrvits and Matthew Martin. According to Christophers, the Stabat Mater is without doubt the most powerful poem of the liturgy and one which has inspired composers through the ages.
