As children, on their way home from school, listened to the birds along the Picardy roads. They imitated them and the birds answered them. As teenagers, they competed in imitation competitions. Today, their duo amazes us.
Jean Boucault and Johnny Rasse are recognized as the greatest performers of birdsong. Their technique of imitation echoes primitive techniques of singing and uses breath voice, trill singing, hissing high frequency, whistling drone and percussive song. They offer a repertoire of thousands of bird sounds from five continents.
In 2006, at the Compiègne Forest Festival, Jean and Johnny meet on the same stage as pianist Jean-François Zygel. The two artists form the collective "Bird Singers", with the aim of using bird song as a raw material and mixing it with any form of living art: music, theater, dance and circus arts, joined in this recording by pianist Shani Diluka and violinist Geneviève Laurenceau.
