The piano work of Johannes Brahms was in the focus of the Ruhr Piano Festival in 2016. Of course, this is reflected in the selection of works for the annual album as well as the anniversaries of two composers whose works are unfortunately still performed far too rarely: Max Reger (100th anniversary of his death) and Ferruccio Busoni (150th birthday).

The first album introduces two large variation cycles by Johannes Brahms and Max Reger. The Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Georg Friedrich Händel op. 24 are regarded as Brahms' artistic liberation and can be heard here in the interpretation of the young German-Korean Christopher Park. Max Reger's technically and artistically highly demanding variations and fugues on a theme by Georg Philip Telemann op. 134, in turn, are interpreted by Joseph Moog with great virtuosity. Both variation cycles are absolute pearls in the album repertoire.

The second album presents further rarities by Max Reger: his traditionally written "watercolor aqua op. 25", played by Anna Tsybuleva, and "the wonderful dreams by the fireplace op. 143" in the interpretation of Joseph Moog. Also on this album are some forward-looking works Ferruccio Busoni: forward-looking music, which is exactly in the right hands with the winner of the Busoni Competition Bolzano 2013, Fabian Müller, as well as Gina Alice and Joseph Moog.

The third album in turn is dedicated entirely to the piano work of Johannes Brahms. 22-year-old Gina Alice proves her enormous pianistic sovereignty with the early Four Ballads op . The finale of this album is the wonderful Rhapsody No. 1 in B minor op. 79 in the sensitive interpretation of Louis Schwizgebel.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
