Ottar "Big Hand" Johansen turned 70 on the 29th of January, signalling an important moment in a career that has stretched over five decades. On February 13, he releases his very latest studio album, Big Hand 70 on New Cut Music.
"Big Hand" has close ties to Nashville, which he has been using as an artistic source of inspiration ever since 1978. It is this trip from the braai in Giken to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville which is the backdrop and the red thread on the very last album.
The album is recorded in Oslo and Nashville and contains nine new songs. On the team to mark an incredible career and unique voice are also Casino Steel, Claudia Scott, Sonny Trockmorton, Petter Baarli, Linda Kvam, Hannah Huntley from SLVR Tongue, Daniel Trustrup Røssing from Skogn and Per Einar Fjellheim from Bjugn.
On the album is the cream of Norwegian musicians, Daniel Trustrup Røssing, piano (Chuck Berry), Bjørn «Southern» Nilsen, guitar (Big Hand), Ernst Nikolaisen (Albrigtsen / Hoel), Bill Booth, Roar Øien (Too Far Gone, Sugarfoot) , Frode Hansen, (Gone Country) Knut Hem with several guest plays from Glen Duncan on fiddle (Elton John), and Garth Brooks steel guitarist Bruce Bouton.
