Digital Booklet
"Sir Andrew Davis and the BBC Symphony are on top form ... this reading (of Gerontius) is artistically superior, superior also to those more recent performances I have heard ..." - International Record Review "Recording of the Month ... a wonderful achievement, a deeply considered interpretation ... takes an honoured place among the finest-ever versions of this much-recorded masterpiece and would unquestionably be my preferred digital version." - BBC Music Magazine This Elgar programme features the choral masterpiece The Dream of Gerontius and the enduringly popular song cycle Sea Pictures. The BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus are conducted by Sir Andrew Davis, a peerless Elgarian who was awarded the prestigious Elgar Society Medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the composer’s music. The Dream of Gerontius, recognized today as one of the greatest choral works by an English composer, showcases soloists Stuart Skelton and David Soar; Sarah Connolly sings on both these works.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
