Digital Booklet
"... a marvellously entertaining disc, cleverly kept together by some interpolated lute pieces, richly played." - BBC Music Magazine "... another triumph for the Chandos Chaconne label, which is fast becoming one of the very best early music labels on the scene." - Fanfare "One of the most exciting mixed vocal ensembles around at the moment ... they are an irrepressible force in the early music world bringing bags of style, energy and dramatic excitement to everything they touch." - International Record Review Award-winning British early music vocal ensemble I Fagiolini takes listeners back in time to carnival season in 16th century Venice on this album of world premieres, featuring two sets of comic carnival masquerades by Venetian composer Giovanni Croce. With almost no recorded representation, this is one of the few available encounters with Croce's irreverent style and is the ultimate introduction to a segment of Venetian secular music during the Renaissance. Also included are plucked consort pieces serving as "curtain tunes" and interludes to Croce’s carnival fare as well as unusual and entertaining trios by contemporaneous Paduan lutenist Giovanni Pacolini.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
