After his sudden death 2018 vibraphonist Wolfgang Schlüter, a legend who came on the scene with the first generation of German post-war Jazz, was able to fulfill a grand musical dream before he recently passed away. Recorded with his quartet and produced by conductor/arranger Wolf Kerschek with a sensitively attuned vestment of accompanying strings, this vibrant array of Schlüter’s favorite career-spanning compositions represents a great and equally touching legacy. From the ample treasure trove of a career totaling more than 60 years, he selected favorite compositions, highlights and a “Requiem” that now rings out at the end of the album to act as a pensive echo of an incomparable calling.
