On this second album devoted to Buxtehude's secular output, Baroque ensemble the Purcell Quartet presents sonatas for violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord, all remarkable examples of the composer's beautiful chamber music. Inventive and full of life, each sonata is different from the others, ranging from dance-like works and little fugues to slow, airy pieces and variation sets with dynamic duets between the violin and viola da gamba.
