“Sir Andrew directs with contagious relish, no little charisma and instinctive ebb and flow, the BBC PO and Sheffield Philharmonic Choir acquitting themselves in kind with admirable skill and commitment. Both vocal soloists are excellent ... with gloriously ample sonics, this should find favour with every Elgar devotee."
- Gramophone

"... kudos for performances that are rousing, exciting and beautifully played. The balance between narrators and orchestra is excellent and the sound is typical of Chandos, which is to say, spectacular ... interesting historically and musically and is worth hearing. Elgar lovers and Anglophiles will need this and others can appreciate and enjoy it."
- Audiophile Audition

This double album marks the first complete recording of the masque The Crown of India, performed here by mezzo-soprano Clare Shearer and baritone Gerald Finley with the BBC Philharmonic and Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus, conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. Completed by Anthony Payne in 2008, the work conveys all the pomp and pageantry with which Elgar is associated. The first disc includes the entire masque with narration while disc two contains only the music and the Marches.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
