Digital Booklet
"... they perform a remarkable rendition of Prélude in D Flat Major with an emotive, soul-bearing quality simply not seen or heard of in other recent performances of the composition, almost as if both Arnalds and Ott are mere feet away from the listener, delivering their rendition specifically for them ... brings a feeling of organic life to the record that simply isn’t heard much in recording any longer, let alone in a classical setting." - PopMatters.com Award-winning young Icelandic pop/classical musician Ólafur Arnalds uses a radical new approach to recording the beloved music of Chopin on this album. Arnalds developed an intimate, fragile and often charmingly imperfect sound using old, unusual and altered pianos captured on vintage recording equipment through various mixing techniques to reinforce feelings of solitude or loneliness and to create dreamlike ambient soundscapes. These works are combined with recompositions for strings and piano by Arnalds, merging the pieces into one whole listening experience. Pianist Alice Sara Ott performs the piano parts and guest violinist Mari Samuelsen appears on one track.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
