"... we can consider these to be definitive performances ... Delan sings all of these very well and she obviously understands the varied texts."
- ClassicalCDReview.com
"... the strong performances by all involved and the expressive and flexible vocal production of the soloist all combine to make this a most worthwhile acquisition."
- Fanfare
Soprano Lisa Delan, cellist Matt Haimovitz and pianist Kristin Pankonin perform Jake Heggie’s song cycle From The Book of Nightmares with poetry by Galway Kinnell on this collection which also features recent works by other American composers John Corigliano, Luna Pearl Woolf, David Garner, Gordon Getty and Wiliam Bolcom. This album is a sequel to Delan's highly acclaimed If a Song be Worth a Smile, also devoted to works by living American composers.
"I am thrilled with The Hours Begin to Sing to introduce four more premiere recordings, three of which were written specifically for this disc. And although I cannot claim parentage in this drama of creation, I am honoured to have been cast in the role of midwife."
- Lisa Delan
