“Burgon's tightly focused style generates some truly arresting moments...”
- Pwyll ap Sion, Gramophone Magazine

“The superb Philip Dukes is the dedicatee and soloist in Ghosts of the Dance... a colourful and exhilarating listening experience... The City of London Sinfonia under Rumon Gamba seems to relish this music, as it should.”
- Robert Levett, International Record Review

“[The Viola Concerto] is expertly written, and must be gratifying to play: Philip Dukes appears to enjoy himself, and never puts a foot wrong.”
- Martin Cotton, BBC Music Magazine

Award-winning British composer Geoffrey Burgon was renowned for his remarkable work for film and television, which included scores for Brideshead Revisited (1981), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1979), and Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979). This release from the City of London Sinfonia and conductor Rumon Gamba takes a different approach to Burgon, focusing on his concert music, including the Viola Concerto, “Ghosts of the Dance” with soloist Philip Dukes, the song cycle Merciless Beauty with mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, and the Cello Concerto with Josephine Knight, showing Burgon to be a diverse and multifaceted composer.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
