Poulenc’s Organ Concerto is an extraordinary mixture of high drama and tongue-in-cheek music that could accompany a chase sequence, interspersed with beautiful reflective episodes. Scored for just strings and timpani accompaniment, it nevertheless packs a dramatic and emotional punch.
