Peter and the Wolf Op. 67, a 'symphonic fairy tale for children', is a musical composition written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936. The narrator tells a children's story, while the orchestra illustrates it. It is Prokofiev's most frequently performed work, and one of the most frequently performed works in the entire classical repertoire. It has been recorded many times. This landmark performance from Herbert von Karajan as the principal conductor and founder of the Philharmonia Orchestra is a modern reference for the seminal work. Throughout his career Karajan was a prolific recording artist, making many of his best records for EMI Classics. Being interested in the technology of recording he continued to make both audio and video recordings right up to the time of his death, his name becoming synonymous with the best in mainstream classical music for millions of people around the world. He died on 16 July 1989 aged 81 at his home in Anif, Austria.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
