Deutsche Grammophon releases Pour Sortir Au Jour, the first recording of Stéphane Denève and ‘his’ orchestra. He consciously opted for a 21st-century composer: the young Frenchman Guillaume Connesson, who is considered one of todays most talented composers. On his track record: commissions by big orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The concerto for flute Pour sortir au jour (2014) was recorded with the French flautist Mathieu Dufour, principal flute with the Berlin Philharmonic. Flammenschrift (2012), E chiaro nella valle il fiume appare (2015) and Maslenitsa (2012) constitute a symphonic trilogy that pays tribute to the culture and music of three different countries: Germany, Italy and Russia. The music of Guillaume Connesson (°1970) has absorbed all sorts of influences. His very personal world is a work in progress, growing out of the mix of pragmatism and naïveté which is the trademark of all great creators. Over time and along a great diversity of compositions, Connesson’s inspiration follows, in the composer’s own words, “the complex mosaïc of the modern world”. From pop music, to film music or the great classics, his work is eclectic and yet recognizably French. Contemporary and relevant, colourful and expressive: with all the means at his disposal, he tries to address a wide public by capturing its attention and sharpening its curiosity. Connesson was named Composer of the Year during the Victoires de la Musique Classique 2015 and frequently collaborates with Stéphane Denève. The album was recorded at Studio 4 in the famous Flagey building in Brussels, the orchestra’s historic home port. It is the result of conductor Stéphane Denève’s and the orchestra’s brainchild: the Centre for future Orchestral Repertoire or CffOR. This platform is seeking to collect core information about symphonic compositions since the year 2000, and thus to initiate a broad international dialogue about compositions that will withstand the test of time.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
