In this recording, the harspichordist Jean-Luc Ho gives us a portrait of the 17th century in Europe, dipping into the treasure-trove of keyboard works of this period. Many of these works by Holborne, Rossi, Battiferi, D'Anglebert, Muffat and J.S. Bach have never been recorded before but are powerfully expressive, having in common a certain melancholy - a mood said in Baroque times to be conducive to "the understanding of the most complex matters".
Avec cet enregistrement, le claveciniste Jean-Luc Ho brosse un vaste portrait du XVIIe siècle européen, en piochant dans les trésors que sont ces innombrables manuscrits de clavier. De J.S Bach à Muffat, en passant par Rossi, Holborne, Battiferri ou encore d'Anglebert, ces œuvres pour la plupart inédites au disque, d'une force d'expression rare, sont empreintes de mélancolie, un affect ayant dominé la pensée du Grand Siècle, que l'on disait propice "à la compréhension des choses les plus complexes".
