Digital Booklet
"Four Stars ... an excellent and revelatory program ... the playing of the small band, including the three chalumeau players is stylish, while the recording is mellow and atmospheric. If you’re already a Graupner initiate you’ll want this; if you’re not, this is a very good place to start an acquaintanceship." - Audiophile Audition The chalumeau, forerunner of the clarinet, is in the spotlight on this album from Ars Antiqua Austria performing works by Christoph Graupner, considered one of the most important composers for the instrument. The chalumeau is thought to have been developed in the late 17th century by the same Nuremberg instrument builder who invented the clarinet and has been used by many composers of the Baroque and pre-classical music periods. It was not until the late Baroque era that the loud and powerful Baroque clarinet became more popular and the chalumeau slowly disappeared from the musical scene.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
