This collection of world premiere recordings from British-Vietnamese pianist Tra Nguyen is the sixth and final volume in a series. Nguyen demonstrates different aspects of Raff’s genius as a piano composer on each of these pieces, a mix of early works and more mature compositions. The melodic richness of the early Six Poèmes, dedicated to Liszt who had rescued Raff from penury, contrasts with the deftly evocative Erinnerung an Venedig which recalls a holiday in Venice. The programme also includes the lyrical Fantaisie, complemented by the languid charm of the Barcarolle and a virtuosic Valse brillante.
