"[Green Day] lets their tightly wound hooks decompress, delivering stadium-worthy three-chord nods to various ghosts of rock past"
- Entertainment Weekly
"... the best of the bunch."
- Kerrang!
"more raw, pointed and hard-hitting than anything they've released in years."
- Paste
¡TRÉ! s the eleventh studio album by American rock band Green Day. It is the third and final installment in the ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! trilogy, a series of studio albums that were released from September to December 2012. Green Day started recording material for the album on February 14, 2012, and finished on June 26, 2012. ¡Tré! follows the power pop style of ¡UNO!, and the garage rock feel of ¡DOS! The album's title is a nod to the band's drummer Tré Cool, who turned 40 years old two days after the release of the album.
It is the band's last album as a quartet, as Jason White reverted to being a touring member in 2016 and is also their last album to be produced by their long-time producer Rob Cavallo, whose relationship with the band began with their 1994 album Dookie.
The band started work by rehearsing every other day and making songs. They recorded the album at Jingletown Studios in Oakland, California. The band recorded 37 songs and initially thought of making a double album. Armstrong suggested making a trilogy of albums like Van Halen's I, II, and III, and the trilogy was born.
"We are at the most prolific and creative time in our lives... This is the best music we've ever written, and the songs just keep coming. Instead of making one album, we are making a three album trilogy. Every song has the power and energy that represents Green Day on all emotional levels. We just can't help ourselves ... We are going epic as f***!"
- Billy Joe Armstrong (Frontman)
