"... isn't just an album that rewards repeat visits, it's a recording that demands them. A single listen is more than enough to make clear that there's something important going on here, as Virelles and his adept group create an hour-long journey of deeply felt spirituality, but Mbókò unveils far more with each and every spin ..." - All About Jazz On his album Mbókò, Cuban-born pianist and composer David Virelles takes the folkloric rhythms of Afro-Cuban religious ritual and incorporates them into 21st century music resonating with mystery and meaning. The main title Mbókò can mean “fundament” or “sugar cane” or “The Voice,” not the human voice but The Voice that is believed in Abakuá culture to be the voice of a spirit or spirits. Sound is an element revered in this culture and that idea, the worship of sound itself, was a shaping force in the creation of this album. Virelles has tapped into a musical impulse that is simultaneously ancient and modern, communal and personal, meditative and propulsive.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
