"... full of colour and sonority, even though the scoring is for just two violins and continuo ... right at the end comes the gem: a Chiacona where Caldara throws caution to the winds and these lively players sound as if they are improvising." - The Guardian Violinists Amandine Beyer and Leila Schayegh, both former students of the Schola Cantorum in Basel, join forces for their first recording together, devoted to the trio sonata music of Venetian composer Antonio Caldara. Though best known as a composer of oratorios and operas, Caldara made his name writing these early examples of the trio sonata form. The two violinists are accompanied by a continuo team made up of Jonathan Pesek on violoncello, Jörg-Andreas Bötticher on harpsichord and organ and Matthias Spaeter on liuto attiorbato.
