Digital Booklet
"There are proper songs, sound sculptures, passing thoughts and oddities all mixed together here. There's absolutely no way to know what's coming next, as free jazz raves and folk-ish thoughts make nice together, dreams and nightmares call a truce and all three musicians perform as one without losing a bit of their identities. And through these intriguing and sonically diverse mood paintings, Waxwing proves that substance is of greater importance than stylistic single-mindedness." - All About Jazz Waxwing unites three of Vancouver’s premier jazz musicians in a programme of original compositions and improvisations that combine delicacy and strength, melodic beauty and textural sophistication. The ensemble, formerly known as Wilson/Lee/Bentley, consists of adventurous electric guitarist Tony Wilson, classically trained free improviser Peggy Lee on cello and saxophonist Jon Bentley. Several of the pieces here are quite concise, some almost miniatures, others using overdubbing to create a denser, more orchestral sound. The musicians often swap roles within pieces, exploiting the full range of expression for this unusual combination of instruments.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
