Antiphon Records continues its monumental archive of the historical recording of Otto Klemperer with their Seventh "Cologne" entry, featuring Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis". Otto Klemperer was one of the great conductors of the twentieth century. Like Arturo Toscanini, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Erich Kleiber, Carl Schuricht, Bruno Walter and other “grand old men” whose careers flourished in the inter-war years, Klemperer’s roots lay still very much in the Kapellmeister tradition. The enormous extent of the total number of Klemperer’s recordings, both live and studio, can easily be gauged from the discography that Antiphon Records has compiled: ranging from 1924 to 1971, it features performances from all his creative periods, significantly including the years 1934-1950 when, except for a brief spell with Vox in 1946, Klemperer was bereft of opportunities to make commercial recordings. Thus our archive serves as the ideal basis for anyone wanting to form a comprehensive “sonic” idea of all facets that make up the musicianship of this extraordinary conductor, revealing at the same time the particular features of Klemperer’s unique interpretative style.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
