"... this is the best case that one could ever have hoped for on behalf of this neglected opera. That the music proves fully worthy of the effort is recommendation enough."
- Fanfare

"... an important work offering much to enjoy, deserving of this first-class advocacy. Chandos is to be thanked and congratulated on a very worthwhile and rewarding endeavour."
- International Record Review

Sir Arthur Sullivan is best known for his famous, supreme partnership with W.S. Gilbert, a collaboration that has overshadowed Sullivan’s other musical endeavours, included the work presented here. The Beauty Stone is a serious operatic work of epic duration, composed when Sullivan was at the height of his career. The cast assembled for this premiere commercial recording showcases the strength of the opera, with its many fine melodies, superb orchestration and vivid atmosphere suggestive of the romantically inflected mediaeval setting of the plot. The BBC National Orchestra of Wales and some of the finest singers on the British stage are led on this celebrated album by talented young conductor Rory Macdonald.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
