New Birth is the third album from Dallas-based band the Funky Knuckles, an unconventional group comprised of sidemen from some of the most respected acts in the music industry (Beyonce, Erykah Badu, P. Diddy and many more). Written over a two year period, these songs showcase a sound distinctly separate from any of the members' individual projects.
Fundamentally, the Funky Knuckles haven't changed anything with respect to their approach to songwriting and interpretation of the music through improvising, however they've tried to not only become more honest in the moment but reach farther and higher. Rather than try to see how many notes they can play or how crazy they can they make it sound, the musicians instead challenge each other in asymmetrical song forms and unconventional harmony.
