"Editor’s Choice ... Douglas stands alongside the most distinguished in both works, the smaller pieces accorded similar care. An excellent disc."
- Gramophone

"... Chandos’s recorded sound copes admirably with the huge dynamic extremes of the music and of Douglas’s own dynamic spectrum .... absolutely first-class."
- International Record Review

"... a fine recital and an auspicious start to this Schubert series ... Ralph Couzens has engineered a very good recording: the warmth of the pianist’s tone is well conveyed in the quieter passages but when the dynamics are loud there’s sufficient space in the aural picture to enable the sound of the piano to open up nicely."
- MusicWeb International

Following his two highly regarded albums of solo works by Brahms, Irish pianist Barry Douglas turns his attention to the complete solo piano works by Franz Schubert. This first volume in the series features two large-scale works, the ‘Wanderer’ Fantasy and the Piano Sonata, alongside two Schubert songs transcribed by Liszt.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
