- Gramophone

"the performances are first-class in their brio, sympathy and sensitivity, sound is top-drawer (audiophiles will be drooling) and the music consistently skilled (both in invention and scoring), enjoyable and memorable. This is a superb release on every count."
- ClassicalSource.com

"Five Stars. This is pure pleasure... this marvellous disc is a collection of sparkling gems... the RSNO is in top form, with shimmering strings, colourful woodwind and swaggering brass, full of wit, colour and joie de vivre. The recording is also outstanding, sound great in stereo, giving a wonderful natural bloom that is perfect for this effervescent music."
- BBC Music Magazine

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Neeme Järvi present these orchestral works, all dating from the first half of the composing life of Saint-Saëns, with one exception, the Marche du couronnement, written for the coronation of Edward VII in 1902. Of note on this superbly-recorded album is the dramatic symphonic poem Phaëton, written for large orchestra, including contrabassoon, tuba, two harps and three timpanists, bringing with it a pure, raw energy. The programme is rounded out with three other symphonic poems by Saint-Saëns, as well as the Danse bacchanale from Samson et Dalila and the Marche militaire française from Suite algérienne.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
