"Editor’s Choice ... here is England’s first great opera presented with a truly cohesive sense of theatrical purpose ..."
- Gramophone

"Four Stars ... enshrines Connolly as one of the most affecting Carthaginian Queens since Janet Baker's account nearly half a century ago. From the outset, Connolly exudes imposing presence, pathos and unassailable dignity ... the playing of the OAE for co-directors Elizabeth Kenny and Stephen Devine is ever-alert and full of flair."
- BBC Music Magazine

Mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly drew lavish praise for her performance as Dido on this 2008 recording of the first English operatic masterpiece, Purcell’s tragedy Dido and Aeneas. Connolly is joined by baritone Gerald Finley as Aeneas, several outstanding soloists and the Age of Enlightenment Choir and Orchestra on this release commemorating the 350th anniversary of Purcell’s birth.

"It seems I have known Purcell’s Dido all my life and feel able to express myself in this music like no other ... as a character, Dido fascinates me to the point of obsession."
- Sarah Connolly, mezzo-soprano

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
