André Cluytens leads the Berliner Philharmoniker in this stunning legacy recordings of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, regarded by many critics and musicologists as Beethoven's greatest work and one of the supreme achievements in the history of western music. One of the best-known works in common practice music (featuring the famous melody, "Ode To Joy"), it stands as one of the most performed symphonies in the world. Beethoven's symphonies, each of them being a masterpiece in itself, represent a certain stage in the composer's life. Beethoven himself said, "Symphonies are the best representation of my true self. I always seem to hear within me the sound of a great orchestra." He only composed nine symphonies but each one is unique and prepares the way for the next. Cluytens was regarded as a highly versatile conductor during his lifetime, especially in his interpretation of Beethoven. While most conductors have placed emphasis on the odd-numbered symphonies and were reserved on the even-numbered symphonies, Cluytens voids this usual distinction.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
