André Cluytens leads the Berliner Philharmoniker in this stunning legacy recording of Beethoven's Complete Symphonies and Overtures. Beethoven's symphonies, each of them being a masterpiece in itself, represent a certain stage in the composer's life. Beethoven himself said, "Symphonies are the best representation of my true self. I always seem to hear within me the sound of a great orchestra." He only composed nine symphonies but each one is unique and prepares the way for the next. Born into a musical family in Antwerp in 1905, André Cluytens moved to France in 1932 to take up a post at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. In the course of his career he held posts at several major French opera houses and orchestras, but he also enjoyed great success at the Bayreuth Festival (he was the first French conductor to appear there), in Berlin and Vienna, and recorded with the Philharmonia in London. He also appeared with the New York Philharmonic.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
