Digital Booklet
"... a surprisingly moving and even, in its strange way, lyrical piece of music ... an immersive, mesmerizing and deeply musical journey for the listener, as well as a spectacular vehicle for a pivotal talent from the world of rock." - WQXR-FM "... succeeds almost entirely on the strength of the appreciable talents of Wilco drummer and new music aficionado Glenn Kotche. Kotche can really ‘do some drumming’ and creates some apparently seamless and unending pulsing through amazingly connected stick work ... the sound is eerie, subdued and somewhat unsettling in places and wholly heart-pounding and pulse-quickening in others ... well worth having and the sound quality is spacious and quite impressive." - Audiophile Audition Grammy-winning composer John Luther Adams always speaks with reverence about capturing “the tone within the noise” and this album takes that mission directly to heart. Ilimaq is a true electroacoustic recording that channels the energy, passion and precision of Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and maps a vivid, phantasmagorical progression through liquid cascades of percussion, otherworldly ambient soundscapes, harmonic dissonance, melodic convergence and almost everything that’s musically and sonically possible in between. Adams and Kotche didn’t just choose to collaborate on a whim. Back in 2008, while Wilco was on tour in Alaska, Kotche personally emailed Adams and asked to meet. It soon came to light that he had been following Adams’ work for years; by the same token, Adams’ own background as a rock drummer gave him a uniquely informed glimpse of what Kotche had in mind.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
