"Turbulent, wildly colourful and exploding with life ... sounded like a handful of American folk melodies tossed into a strong wind, cascading and tumbling joyfully around one another." - The Washington Post As the title indicates, this debut album from New York-based violinist, composer and music educator Jessie Montgomery is devoted to her music for strings, performed here by Montgomery's ensemble the Catalyst Quartet and the PUBLIQuartet, led by Grammy-nominated conductor Julian Wachner. Drawing on American folk idioms and the spirit of dance and movement, Strum has a kind of narrative that begins with fleeting nostalgia and transforms into ecstatic celebration. "Originally conceived for a quintet of two violins, viola and two cellos, the voicing is often spread over the ensemble, giving the music an expansive sound. Within Strum I utilized ‘texture motives,' layers of rhythmic or harmonic ostinatos to form a bed of sound for melodies to weave in and out. The strumming pizzicato serves as a ‘texture motive' and the primary driving rhythmic underpinning of the piece." - Jessie Montgomery

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
