"... to hear three of Bach’s finest early cantatas played this way, with every line of counterpoint pristine and audible, is a profoundly moving experience, especially in performances as expert and spiritually uplifting as these ..."
- Classic FM

"Four Stars ... out to impress, Bach's instrumental imagination soared in these works ... the playing is consistently rewarding ... the singing which at its most persuasive is ravishing ... there are marvellous things from all ..."
- BBC Music Magazine

The Purcell Quartet is joined by a celebrated group of soloists on the third volume of a series devoted to Bach’s early cantatas. This programme contains three cantatas dating from 1714, when he was responsible for composing sacred vocal music, including cantatas for Sundays and feast days. Bach himself performed all three works collected on this double album set several times. They are presented here as they would have been heard in 1714, in a way that Bach would have recognized, by artists respected in the early music field.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
