The Gorillaz pay tribute to the late Tony Allen in their new single "How Far?". Allen famously was an architect of the polyrhythmic afro-pop sound, and was Fela Kuti's longtime drummer. The Gorillaz's Damon Albarn had a personal relationship with Allen, who was a band-mate in their alternate project, The Good, The Bad, and The Queen. The legendary artist died in April 2020 at the age of 79.
The track comes as part of the Gorillaz's Song Machine series, a unique concept where the band releases 13 episodic singles with their trademark animation style, following an loose overarching narrative for the season.
