Billboard 200 - #40, 1976
"... finally let people that hadn't seen Rush understand what all the fuss was about. Unlike many peers at the time, they didn't monkey around with anything in the studio."
- Rolling Stone
"It was raw and totally live. It really bugged us for years that we didn't fix anything."
- Geddy Lee
All The World’s A Stage, Rush’s first live release, was recorded at the relatively intimate Massey Hall in Toronto over three nights in June 1976 during the band's 2112 tour. The double set, Rush's first top 40 album, presents the group's 90 minute headlining show in its entirety, featuring material from Rush's first four albums. A highlight here is a slightly-abbreviated version of the groundbreaking 2112 rock opera.
"When we play a piece live, we add all our little quirks to it. It grows; our older material shows a remarkable progression. Some of the old songs have developed until they’re superior to the originals. This gives us a chance to bring them up to date. We always felt there was something happening live that didn’t come across on record. Now we have the opportunity to capture that essence of the band."
- Neil Peart
