Digital Booklet
|
"The choral singing is superb, as it is throughout this first-rate production ... the orchestra acquits itself equally well ... one couldn’t ask for more authoritative, caring, or musically refined advocates. Anyone wishing to get to know, or to know better, this very fine and sorely missed composer should be sure not to miss this."

The double Grammy nominated Far in the Heavens features recently composed and previously unrecorded works by Stephen Paulus, including two pieces commissioned and premiered by True Concord Voices and Orchestra: The Incomprehensible, composed for their fifth anniversary season in 2009, as well as Prayers and Remembrances, written for the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Grammy winner Peter Rutenberg produced the album, personally supervised by Paulus, who tragically suffered a major stroke just six weeks after recording wrapped up. He never recovered and died in October 2014 after being in a coma for more than a year.
"This is the culmination of everything Stephen ever wrote in his entire career ... he must have had a premonition that this needed his final touch."
- Patty Paulus, wife of the late Stephen Paulus
