Her Own Wings tells a story of place and identity, of family and friendship. The album is a result of an inspiring composer residency with Gabriela Lena Frank at the Willamette Valley Chamber Music Festival. Recorded in the unique acoustics of an Oregon Winery barrel room, this project was produced in close partnership by Ms. Frank and the musicians of the WVCMF. The title refers both to the Oregon state motto Alis Volat Propriis ('she flies with her own wings') and to Ms. Frank's uniquely American compositional voice, which draws from her mother's immigrant heritage, and the line of strong women who came before.
