Glenn Frey tackles the Great American Songbook, pre-rock classics and love songs from the 1940s on After Hours, his first solo album in 20 years and the last album released during his lifetime. A total departure from his usual rock material with the Eagles, this collection of songs that Frey grew up with features horns and lavish string arrangements. Frey said in a 2012 interview that he had this project in his head since the 1980s, when he first heard Linda Ronstadt's standards albums produced by Nelson Riddle. This deluxe edition adds three bonus tracks.
"I didn't want to do a period piece. My idea was to just do a bunch of songs that I really like and that fit my voice ... that's not to say that I don't have any songs left to write. But I'd like to do something else in the vein of After Hours. There are so many great songs: I feel like I've just scratched the surface."
