2020 is the 150th anniversary of the Cello Sonata by Louis Vierne. The young cellist Raphaël Jouan and the pianist Flore Merlin have chosen to associate it with the 3 pieces by Nadia Boulanger, his former student and the works of two of the most important personalities of that time: Gabriel Fauré and Claude Debussy. This program highlights a striking diversity of artistic identities in France in a very short period of time. Flore Merlin plays a 1903 Erard piano that belongs to the Paris Conservatoire: its very rich, woody and colorful sonority is particularly well suited to the musical language and the aesthetics of this period.
