Digital Booklet
|
"From the powerful opening gesture to a foreboding final section, encompasses a diverse and at times exhilarating range of dissonance and consonant moods."
- Gramophone
"... has everything going for it: superb music superlatively performed and recorded in the atmosphere in which it was created ... the whole thing, certain moments in particular, make me shed a tear of awe and respect ..."
- MusicWeb International
"Five Stars ... ravishing performances ... fine, affecting performances by all ensembles of the more intense pieces ... two light-footed lullabies, sung sweetly but never cloyingly by the chamber choir, leave us with some sense of comfort. Disc of the Month."
- BBC Music Magazine
Marshalling orchestral and choral forces under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste, this Arvo Pärt album is a major event. Like all Pärt’s albums on ECM, this was produced with the composer’s participation and features his sacred music, by turns monumentally powerful and tenderly fragile. The programme concludes with two lullabies for female choir and string orchestra. Recorded in Niguliste Church in Tallinn, Estonia, several of the compositions on the album are world premieres.
