Digital Booklet
"When you first hear the drummer in the right channel, whispering then falling silent then stirring again, you know it’s Paul Motian and it hurts to feel his absence from the world." - JazzTimes.com "Five Stars ... a trio recording of spur-of-the-moment sounds. They create a set of diaphanous and delicately beautiful tunes laid down in the sparest of fashions, where each nuance of the music can be savoured and pondered to the fullest ... the entire set has a 'soundtrack to a dream world' quality, a world of surreal and subtle scintillations, cryptic whisperings and nebulous beauty." - All About Jazz This recording marks the first ECM release from pianist Masabumi Kikuchi and the last session from great drummer Paul Motian. Motian and Kikuchi were friends for many years and Motian understood the idiosyncracies and the wayward charm of the Japanese pianist’s highly personal style perhaps better than anyone. The trio on this strangely beautiful album, completed by double bassist Thomas Morgan, makes new art out of the interactive free rubato ballad.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
