"The textural richness Benita can get from the velvety pulse of bass and rattling shake of snare, the smooth sandpaper of flugel and the chrome shine of koto, all moving over (guitarist) Aarset’s characteristic sheen and glimmer, is a delight. The most striking thing about this album, aside from the lovely mix of timbres, is the easy flowing way the players weave their lines: there is constant motion but it always feels like the shifting of sands, the breeze in reeds, the scudding of clouds, natural in every way."
- TheJazzBreakfast.com
Algerian-born double bassist Michel Benita leads his own group of international musicians on this music that flows, like the glistening river of the title, beyond borders. Colours of folk and colours of jazz are blended in Benita’s multi-idiomatic writing, displaying a strongly lyrical tendency. Graceful flugelhorn is foregrounded while koto, bass and drums interact creatively at the band’s core.
