"... it's all about embedding the piano trio tradition into a new context where things aren't always as they seem ... Jahnel has carved his own evocative space on a label that may seem loaded down with piano trios, but for whom, in the case of Jahnel, there's clearly room for one more." - All About Jazz Equilibrium is the ECM debut for this German/American/Spanish trio, which through frequent touring has grown into a remarkably tight and stylistically unique unit. Fuelled by the tension created through the contrasting styles of pianist and bandleader Benedikt Jahnel and drummer Owen Howard, with double bass player Antonio Miguel often the musical mediator, the group’s sound draws subtly from classical influences as well as contemporary concepts of groove. Jahnel, also known as a member of Cyminology, wrote all seven tracks on Equilibrium, striking a unique and delicate balance between composed parts and improvisation or group improvisation.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
