Digital Booklet
"... an achievement ... his patient style suggests maturity beyond his years. So, too, do his eight original compositions." - JazzTimes.com "Four Stars ... (Eick's) silky, unbrasslike sound is ideally suited to this undulating groove-landscape ... (his) rather mournful, puffs-of-air sound is pretty captivating." - The Guardian "... Eick has developed a distinctive aesthetic while working with a homegrown team ... (he’s) fashioned a sound that capitalizes on individual strengths while using a dogmatic approach to discourage falling into comfort zones." - DownBeat "... Eick has more than paid his dues, a fact made abundantly clear ... remarkable for its avoidance of technology, a defining aesthetic for so many of his musical peers ... avoids any kind of processing ... largely a live-in-the-studio (and, in many cases, first take) recording ... (Eick's tone) displays a classical purity ... with his warm tone, selfless allegiance to the collective and personal nexus of lyrical form and freedom, Eick is the most important trumpeter to emerge from the Scandinavian scene since Henriksen and Molvær ... The Door is all human in nature, delivering mightily on the promise of Eick's earlier ECM appearances." - All About Jazz The Door is the debut leader date from prizewinning Norwegian trumpeter Mathias Eick, already a familiar name to ECM fans. His melodically intense trumpet sings over fractured rhythms and grooves, supported by Jon Balke’s inventiveness on acoustic and electric pianos, drummer Audun Kleive and guest Stian Carstensen from Farmer’s Market on pedal steel guitar. The resourceful Eick plays vibes and guitar as well, but it is his trumpet that is the main focus of this attractive set, moving through a programme of many colours.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
