The New Empress Of The Blues is the 1974 10-track album from Olive Brown, one of the best contemporary blues singers post-Bessie Smith.
Olive Brown's career as the “The New Empress of the Blues” only lasted about a decade, but she left a lasting impression. Born Olive Jefferson in 1922, she later adopted the name Brown for performance. As the 70s dawned, she recognized a hunger in her audiences for authentically revived early blues material, focusing on the music of Bessie and Mamie Smith.
This wonderful recording is presented by 2xHD using their trademark high-resolution digital transfer process.
