"There is significant diversity in these compositions that never rely solely on one element in Hurd's toolkit ... there are points where the electronic beat is primal in the face of chamber style strings and the contrast is riveting ... successfully closes any preconceived gaps between electronics and traditionally composed music ... sometimes warm, sometimes angular but always accessible ... a captivating first effort, not confined by any of the many micro-genres in play." - All About Jazz This debut album from San Francisco-based electronic music composer George Hurd and his electro-acoustic chamber ensemble features the title work, recently written for acclaimed violinist Carla Kihlstedt. Focused on unifying the worlds of electronic and classical music, all Hurd Ensemble compositions are intended for string quartet (violin, viola, cello, upright bass) with piano and electronics. The pieces also makes frequent use of vibraphone, bass clarinets, harp and steel pans and is meticulously bound together with digitally arranged sounds collected from Hurd’s travels. The electronics are layered to create textures that complement the acoustic instruments, giving rise to a sound that is extremely organic despite its partially digital origins.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
