Billboard 200 - #17, 1969 "The music has lost none of its muscular drama ... as powerful and right today as it was 37 years ago. " - Rolling Stone "An excellent comeback ... the result is very good protest music ... B+." - Robert Christgau One of the first concept albums, Monster from Steppenwolf contains several political and protest songs ripped from the headlines of turbulent 1969. Bandleader John Kay says the album displays a fresh burst of energy thanks to new lead guitarist Larry Byrom, replacing original member Michael Monarch. Includes the original 10-minute version of the title song and the single Move Over. "In my opinion Monster was a stronger effort than anything since the second album. However, time was once again our enemy which made it necessary that we recorded this project in an unusual fashion. The guys came up with one track after another while I was trying to keep up with my vocal parts and lyrics. Since this was supposed to be a concept album, I had to write within certain guidelines so that the lyrics fit within the concept." - John Kay

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
