On a stunning reading of Jean-Fery Rebel’s Les Elements, Jordi Savall leads his period instrument ensemble Le Concert des Nations, displaying his unmatched vision of the Baroque orchestral repertoire and proving that authenticity and timbral beauty aren’t mutually exclusive. Works by Locke, Vivaldi, Marais, Telemann and Rameau, a splendidly varied and expressively wide-ranging selection, are welcome additions to the existing landmark recordings released by Savall in this repertoire. Superb engineering complements the live performances perfectly, offering warmth without excessive resonance, letting the players shine.
